2023 Camp Creative Student Counselor Application

July 31-August 4; 8:15am-5pm | Eligible applicants must be at least 14 years old and have completed their first year of high school.
Camp Creative is a week-long day camp for elementary age kids. It is designed for young artists to explore five genres of creativity: photography, cooking, music, theater, and visual arts. Camp Creative is also camp, so kids will have fun making new friends, playing games, eating snacks, exploring their faith, dancing and much more! Camp Creative is a United Methodist day camp, and Bible lessons will be taught in a welcoming environment throughout the week. University United Methodist Church is an inclusive congregation and believes everyone has a place in the church. 

Student Counselors will be responsible for helping young artists explore the creative arts by co-leading one of the five creative sessions, will lead campers through other sessions of camp, provide a positive role model for young children, help maintain a safe and positive environment for all participants, and will assistant in the running of Camp Creative. Student Counselors will share responsibility with adult leaders while learning from the adults important leadership and work skills. 

Student Counselors will commit to attending all five days of camp from 8:15am-5:00pm, three pre-camp meetings, and MinistrySafe/camp training to help prepare Counselors to safely work with children. Student Counselors will receive a $400 stipend for their leadership and work with Camp Creative.

Position Preferences

Student Counselors will have both a specific assignment as well as general roles (leading children to sessions, helping with activities, clean-up, setting-up, assisting with snacks and meals, etc.). 

Specific assignments are related to the creative stations that young artists will explore (music, theater, art, cooking, photography, and Bible). Student Counselors will co-lead these stations with adult leaders and will have responsibilites in developing lessons and helping campers explore their craft. Additionally, one Student Counselor will act as a General Assistant to the Camp Director and will co-lead Opening and Closing sessions and will help facilitate recess.
